Hi,
In January, 2022 I started wearing a new smart watch. Right away I noticed unusual elevated heart rate for long periods of time. I mentioned it to my dr and that started a long run of tests like ekg's, ultrasound, blood work, etc...
I was referred to a Cardiologist that specializes in the electrical system of the heart. His diagnosis was SVT Atrial Tachycardia. I was prescribed Metoprolol. And told my hearts structure is normal. He suggested an ablation but also told me it doesn't always work. He also told me that SVT isn't life threatening.
Since that visit my episodes became longer and more frequent. Up to 31 hours straight with a hr between 105-130. After a long episode I would get very tired and need to nap.
From the beginning I noticed that there was a correlation between eating/swallowing and tachycardia events. My dr had no explanation except that the esophagus runs near the heart and swallowing could stimulate the racing heart.
I've been researching tirelessly the connection between eating, the vagus nerve, and heart.
This is my experience:
When I eat or drink (sometimes, but not everytime) I will get ectopic beats that leads into an svt episode. There's also much bloating and some burping. It is especially prone when I sit after eating or slump. Posture seems to be a key. My stomach is bloated even though I'm eating just 1200-1500 calories roughly a day. I do exercise as well.
After some research, I found a few things that have helped this past week. I'm eating less at dinner bc the bloating seems to build up by evening. I take Gas-x after lunch and dinner. I drink only small amounts of water with food. Hydrate between meals.
Also if an episode starts I can sometimes calm it now by raising my hands overhead and breathing slowly through nose and out through mouth.
I've switched to non-dairy and gluten free foods. No caffeine, no chocolate, no alcohol, (no fun!)
I also take magnesium taurate, saccharimoyces boulardii probiotic, vit D, and COQ10.
I don't experience much acid reflux symptoms, if at all. Mostly just bloating. Bloating, bloating, bloating.
My next step is to get a H.pylori test done. I've read that there's a definite link to HP and SVT.
